Sasha Wheeler- "Fifth Position" 2011

**I chose this image because it is one of the few poses I can do :)**

Sasha Wheeler- "Reflection of Motion" 2011

**This image is one of my favorites because of the movement of the pose, and the reflection in the mirror.**

Sasha Wheeler- "Retire Position" 2011

**This position seems simple, but it’s actually really hard to do!**

***This quote seems to work for all of these images: “Vance demonstrated how photographs of human bodies are caught up in social struggles, and how different views about the meanings and uses of photographs have political implications.” -Chapter 4, pg 172

These photos show the strength of the human, and more specifically the female, body. Many people think of ballerinas as delicate, when they really are pure strength. Depending on where/how these photos could be shown, there could be many different views and meanings to them.

Sasha Wheeler- "Pointe Shoe" 2011

**I chose this image because I love that you can see the fibers of the shoe. **

Sasha Wheeler- "Turn" 2011

**I chose this image because the body looks so graceful in this position. **

Sasha Wheeler- "Chalk Marks" 2011

**I chose this image because it has great light, and I enjoy seeing the chalk marks on the floor from her pointe shoes.**

Robert Mapplethorpe- Derrick Cross, 1982

nez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin- "Guinevere Descending a Staircase" 2000

http://www.matthewmarks.com/artists/inez-van-lamsweerde-and-vinoodh-matadin/selected-works/#/images/9/

When I look at the Mapplethorpe image, I automatically think of the picture as an erotic image, even though it also seems to also be an image based on the form of the body. The image of Guinevere also seems to be an erotic image. She is dressed in voyeuristic clothing purposefully meant to entice the male viewer. The scopophilia one experiences while looking at these images I believe is what the artists were trying to achieve. The Mapplethorpe image does not have the subject’s face showing, making the body form the main focus. The other image has the subject staring directly at the viewer.

Beatrice Caracciolo- "Cercare nella Terra"

from “Cercare nella Terra (Searching the Land)”

February 5 – March 19, 2011

http://www.paulacoopergallery.com/exhibitions/499

**I was drawn to this image for two reasons. First, for the old-time look of the image, the faded black and white colors. Second, I love landscape images, trees in particular. **

Massimo Grimaldi- "Prince Surface"

2011, c-print, magnetic steel, magnets, 78.8 x 39.4, unique

http://www.teamgal.com/exhibitions/188

**I was drawn to this image because I love Prince. He reminds me of my mom, who also loves him, and I love my mom, so that’s cool**

Teri Greeves- "Great Lakes Girls" 2008

glass beads, bugle beads, Swarovski crystals, sterling silver stamped conchos, spiny-oyster shell cabochons, canvas high-heeled sneakers, 11 1/2 x 9 x 3 in.

Tipi: Heritage of the Great Plains February 18–May 15, 2011

**I was drawn to this image not because I would wear these shoes myself, but because women often talk about shoes as works of art. These shoes literally are!**

Sasha Wheeler- "I Keep on Fallin'" 2011

**I like this image because it shows a lot of movement. And it seems that even though she fell, they’re having a blast**

Sasha Wheeler- "Help! I Need Somebody!" 2011

**I like this image because you can tell that without the help of this woman (mother?  sister?) she would probably be falling a lot.**

Sasha Wheeler- "Life in the Fast Lane" 2011

**This image draws me in because it’s such a ‘boy’ picture. They seem to be racing**
