Me! Me! Read all about Me!
I am a photography student at Metropolitan State College of Denver slowly making my way through. I have met tons of people that are a lot further in their education, and it certainly is intimidating, but I am trying to find my way! I know what I want, but it definitely takes time to get there!
My idol is Ansel Adams. I believe that my being a photographer was meant to be because we have the same Birthday! It’s a sign, I know
I absolutely love black and white photography. And I have a big obsession with abandoned things (houses, cars, random stuff in the middle of nowhere, left behind or lost). I love driving around farm country finding old things to capture in that moment before they are lost forever.
Story time: A few summers ago I was driving around South Dakota taking pictures of old farmhouses that are on the brink of falling to pieces. The next summer, my grandma and great aunt came with me on my exploration. They took me to 3 houses that they had once lived in, and even one that my grandma was actually born in! Those houses were some of the ones I had photographed the previous summer. It was fascinating to know that I had stumbled upon them already, and then was suddenly hearing stories about my family living in them! For most of them, the only thing still standing were the houses, while the other buildings had either been torn down, fallen down over time, or been wrecked my tornadoes. It is for this reason that I love taking pictures of these things. They are so old, there may not be any photographs of proof that somebody had once lived in that exact spot. In that house, that will not be there forever.
Ok, more actually about ME! I was born in Minnesota to a then soon-to-be single mother. When I was 8 we moved to Golden, CO then on to Evergreen where I went to High School. After school I went to Florida to nanny for a family there that I had met online. I was there for 9 months, and it was more than enough time! I had planned on starting college then when I got back home, but I ended up taking another year off, to nanny for another family (that I had known and babysat for a few years already). During almost that whole time I had planned on being a teacher. Well, after nannying for so long, and babysitting for so many years before that, I got a little burnt out on kids! I finally started college in 2006 with plans to do what I love doing best. Taking pictures. I moved in with my best friend Emily in Denver (the first time I was REALLY on my own, paying rent and all!), got a new job and that’s me up until now!
